you provide grooming? Not
yet. We are taking our time in hiring a groomer you can trust. We should make
our decision soon, but until then feel free to email or call to be placed on our
waiting list. How
much do you charge to train a dog? Price
has many variables. Including what your own goals are for your dog. Some owners
are only seeking the absolute introductory commands so they can comfortably take
their dog for a walk. While many of our clients are preparing their dog for duck/upland
game hunting, therapy dog work, AKC competitions, service work, and of course
the perfect family dog. As you can imagine, with these variables making a "menu"
can be difficult. We have made every effort to see that our obedience packages
remain reasonable in comparison to trainers with equal credentials. We cannot
compete with many group trainers due to our immense overhead in comparison. If
price alone is your key factor in choosing a trainer then there are many discounted
classes to attend, or several wonderful books we would be happy to recommend and
sell you from our inventory at the cover price. We lack the finances for training
can you still help? We love to help in every way we can. We understand the
cost of professional assistance can be a significant investment, and not in everyone's
budget. As there is only one trainer at our facility it is hard scheduling "mass"
training at a discounted rate while offering so much time in personal training
at a higher rate. For this reason we carry a selection of several wonderful books
to help you train your dog on your own, and make the following recommendation. 1.
Don't read a book and jump into training. a. Before you
become formal in your dog's training read 2 more books. 2. Start with basic
command training to initiate formal communication. 3. Once you have established
a basic understanding make a list of questions and schedule a private lesson.
Here we can walk you through the problems you are facing and set you down a formal
path, offer behavioral advice, establish an attainable training schedule, and
help you reach your goals for your dog on your own.
Total
cost = one private lesson and books. Depending on the books you purchase it's
possible to reach significant heights at or near $100-$150. Do
you use all positive training? No.
Some owners are quite happy with using positive reinforcement only when training.
I would never discourage any owner from seeking some kind of training. This is
where responsible dog ownership begins (after selection). If your dog is "happy
go lucky", positive reinforcement may offer you additional control especially
if the dog is hungry. Positive reinforcement is the presentation of something
the dog perceives as rewarding. Ex - Dog sits, dog gets a treat. For more
information on training methodology please visit our Obedience Training page. Will
training take my dogs personality away? Our
goal is not to change you dog's personality, but to help free their mind so you
see MORE personality. No
one has explained it better then the Monks of New Skete.
They use their own approach to training of course, but the tools and basic theory
is similar to our approach at Circleville Pet Services llc. They have a book titled;
I & Dog. In it are several meditations relating to the relationship of man
and dog. I would like to share one quote with you that should help explain professional
training.
"People
sometimes cringe at the thought of training, As if the purpose were to quench
a dogs spirit...nonsense. Genuine training is about freedom: Freedom
from both ourselves and our dogs to enjoy each other, Enhancing our relationships
by allowing their potential to blossom in the patient context of trial and error,
praise and appreciation." |
My
dog bit someone...can you help?
Perhaps,
there are many questions that need answered prior to training any dog. The important
thing to remember is to be completely honest and feel comfortable to fully explain
any incidents which may have led to this behavior when speaking to any trainer.
Trainers are injured quite often by not understanding the full story prior to
training. How
much is an evaluation? Evaluations
are free of charge. If you are interested in professional training, an evaluation
will allow us to fully assess your goals for your dog, and to show you what a
world of obedience training can do for your life.
